Bethel Census Area Overview
City of Bethel Public Records
The City of Bethel is the largest community in the census area and provides municipal services within its incorporated limits. The City Clerk's Office is located at 300 State Highway, Bethel, AK 99559, phone 907-543-2047. Public records requests must be submitted in writing to the department that holds the records. If you are not sure which department has the records you need, send your request to the Clerk's Office.
The city offers several ways to submit records requests. You can use the Online Public Request for Information form on the city website, use the separate Online Police Department Public Request for Information form, download and print the paper version, or use the Police Department's PDF forms for police reports and statistics. Requests require acknowledgment of potential fees and a certification under penalty of perjury that the request is not for use in litigation. This is governed by Bethel Municipal Code Chapter 2.04, which addresses access to public records, and Chapter 2.44, which addresses records management.
The City of Bethel Public Records page is where you access the online request forms and learn about the request process.
The City of Bethel website shows all available public records request methods, including online forms and downloadable PDF versions for police records.
Under AS 40.25.110, every person has the right to inspect public records in Alaska. The city must provide an initial response within 10 working days. A non-refundable fee applies to records requests as set by the City of Bethel. Each request is reviewed individually to determine if it falls within legal guidelines. Fees may be charged for staff time on extensive requests, and agencies can require payment before starting work.
Note: APRA does not require agencies to compile summaries, answer questions, or create new documents. Requests must identify specific records already in existence.Bethel Census Area Court Records
